🚍 School Bus Safety Reminder 🚍 ⚠️ When traveling on a two- or three-lane road: 🔴 Approaching from the rear: Stop when you see flashing red or amber lights. Remain stopped at least 15 feet behind the bus until the stop arm retracts. 🟡 Meeting from the front: Slow to 20 mph when amber lights flash and stop when the stop arm extends. ⚠️ When traveling on a road with two or more lanes in each direction: 🔴 Approaching from the rear: The same rules apply—stop at least 15 feet behind the bus until it moves. ✅ Meeting from the front: You do not need to stop unless law enforcement or traffic control is present.

It is that time of year to publish proposed tax rates for schools, cities and counties. The charts required by law are confusing so we hope this information clarifies the realistic impact. The comparison in the DOM budget system for the taxpayer notices mandates a 10% increase in assessed value for both types of comparison properties. In reality, only odd numbered years are reassessment years, so 2024 assessments (FY 2026) generally only change during odd numbered years. Second, if assessments did actually grow by 10%, the Residential Rollback would fall to guarantee a 3% taxable value growth.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - KNOXVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT - PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX LEVY Per Iowa Code, all school districts are required to hold a public hearing for proposed maximum tax levies and post notice to the public. The Knoxville Community School District will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 school district property tax levy on March 24, 2025 at 5:30pm in the District Office Boardroom, 418 S Park Lane Drive. At the public hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections to or arguments in favor of the proposed tax levy. After the public hearing of the proposed tax levy, the school district will publish a notice and hold a public hearing of the proposed school district budget for fiscal year 2026. Due to the Knoxville boys basketball State Tournament game, there will be no school for KCSD on Tuesday, March 11. Knoxville will play Cedar Rapids Xavier at 1030 AM at Wells Fargo Arena. The 6-12 band concert scheduled for Tuesday night in the Knoxville High School gym will happen as scheduled; 6:30 PM start. For fans planning to attend Tuesday's State Basketball game, here are some details to know: * Knoxville spectators will sit on the side behind the teams. * Tickets can be purchased online or can be purchased at the arena. There is a service fee for tickets purchased online. (https://hyveetix.evenue.net/events/BB?RSRC=WEB_VEN&RDAT=EventListPage) * Wells Fargo Arena has implemented a clear bag policy for all events. A maximum size of 12"x6"x12" is permitted. Exceptions will be made for medical, family, or child care bags or small clutches no larger than 4.5"x 6.5" * All spectators from kindergarten on up must purchase a ticket. * No banners, signs, hoops, balloons, or artificial noisemakers are allowed. * Spectators are able to enter through the north, south and skywalk entrances. * WFA staff has created plans for spectators leaving one game and spectators coming into the next game. You may leave the arena and re-enter on the same scanned online ticket. Make sure fans communicate with the ticket takers to receive the proper instructions to re-enter without a second admission fee.

📢 Thank You, Knoxville! 🖤💛 We are grateful to our community for approving the renewal of the Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL)! This renewal ensures KCSD will continue receiving $900,000 annually to maintain and improve school facilities, technology, and transportation. Superintendent Cassi Pearson shared, “We’re grateful to our community for recognizing the importance of PPEL and voting to continue this necessary funding,” We also welcome Jyl DeJong to the school board! Thank you for your support in shaping the future of KCSD!

Our KHS Students had some incredible performances this weekend! KHS student Marley Larson competed at FFA Districts and qualified for State in the Job Interview contest! She will compete at the State Convention in Ames in April!! Also, KHS Speech students Payton VanDorn, Jason Krasko, and Joey Woods competed at Districts for Individual Events Speech each received Division I ratings! Our boys basketball team hosts Fort Madison on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 PM in a playoff game at Knoxville High School. The doors will open to the public at 5:45 PM. Since this is a state playoff game, no passes can be accepted and online tickets must be purchased by all spectators as there will be no cash at the gate.
